The first residents of nubialin arrived yesterday. More follow in the week. Residents will live on the island and interact with the community on social projects of their choosing. Their rent for accommodation covers costs for space, and also for connections with community and project support.
This is an experimental model of development, based on the idea of Mutual Development. These principles and the story of the space have attracted interested participants from Egypt, and applicants from Germany, UK, and US for future dates.
Already projects are underway, a stage is being prepared for storytelling with the kids, and we have found an old sewing machine motor we hope to turn into a wind turbine.
Waleed, a local farmer will deliver us locally grown vegetables from his own land, he doesn’t use chemicals and residents and attendees of the festival are invited to go help him plant mangoes at the upcoming festival, we hope to make a labor exchange for further groceries.
